The Barbican Quartet is a fresh, energetic and highly talented young group from London, who really impressed at their recent audition.

Their YouTube recording of the 3rd movement of Beethoven’s Op.18 No.1 will give you an idea of their energy and commitment, and the sheer joy of music-making that goes into each of their performances.

The Mendelssohn precedes Janacek's first quartet, which is based on Tolstoy’s tale of a murder committed during a performance of Beethoven; the music tells the story in a very gestural way, with rapid changes of mood and intensity.

About the Dorset County Museum Music Society

Six fine professional chamber concerts given in St Mary’s Church and the United Church Dorchester. These temporary venues are necessitated by the closure of the Dorset County Museum building and its wonderful Victorian Hall, the home of the DCMMS for 44 years, during the extensive and hugely exciting building works – Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset – funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund. We look forward to our return to the Museum for the start of the 2020/2021 season.

– FULL PROGRAMME OF THE DORSET COUNTY MUSIC SOCIETY CONCERTS  CAN BE DOWNLOADED HERE –

We are grateful to the authorities at St Mary’s Church for permission to use this fine venue, home to so many of Dorchester’s principal concerts, for this season. Our home for the first forty four years of our history was, of course, the wonderful Victorian Hall at the Dorset County Museum.  As you will know, the museum is currently undergoing extensive and hugely exciting building works, substantially funded thorough the Heritage Lottery Fund. When it reopens as ‘Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset’ the Victorian Hall, commented on so favourably by all artists performing for us, will remain unchanged but the rest of the building will provide a more flexible and welcoming venue for our activities. Plans are already in hand to celebrate this ‘glorious return’ with an outstanding series of concerts.

Amarins Wierdsma, Reinier Bavinck & VUSO

Saturday 21st April 2018, 8pm, Bawtree Concert Hall, Hazelwood, RH8 0QU

Amarins Wierdsma, violin
Edward Liddall, piano

Amarins Wierdsma and Edward Liddall are both distinguished graduates of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They were 2017 YCAT finalists at the Wigmore Hall, playing the same Beethoven and Debussy pieces which they will be performing for our Society which had so enraptured the London audience.

Edward studied at the Royal College of Music and Kings College Cambridge. He is now pursuing a dual career as soloist and accompanist, and has also given a highly acclaimed performance of the Schumann piano concerto.
